Little Boots , o lo que es lo mismo , Victoria Christina Hesketh, es una de las sorpresas en la escena de clubs de los últimos años, una de las princesas del electropop que se consagró en 2009 con su primer LP , Hands , este año está previsto el lanzamiento de su segundo disco, aún sin título confirmado, pero con una tremenda expectación por la británica. Estará los próximos días 5 de Octubre en Madrid y 6 en Barcelona de manos de Miles Away. Os dejamos con la entrevista que hemos publicado con motivo de su paso por nuestro país.
– He leído que en tus comienzos participaste en un reality show de talentos y fuiste eliminada. ¿Que se siente mirar atrás desde donde estás ahora con un disco bastante exitoso a cuestas y otro por venir, y con una carrera ya hecha? ¿Crees que te ayudó en algo participar en el programa y que las cosas hubiesen sido diferentes para tu carrera si hubieses resultado ganadora?
Yo era muy joven y fue muy corto, no creo que me haya afectado en nada excepto en acostumbrarme a contratiempos y a hacerme mas fuerte.
– Te has declarado fan de Britney Spears en algún momento. Britney ahora es jurado de The X factor, ¿te gustaría hacer de jurado alguna vez en ese tipo de programas y estar ahora de ese lado del escenario?
No es algo que me interese, no me gusta mucho la idea de juzgar a otra gente, pero si fuese una buena oportunidad entonces creo que nunca debería decir nunca. Pienso que Britney va a ser una jurado divertida.
– En tus influencias citas a artistas tan dispares como Pink Floyd, The Human League, Gary Numan y Kylie Minogue, ¿Qué nuevo grupo o cantante te ha llamado la atención últimamente? ¿Algún descubrimiento? ¿Cuál fue el primer disco que te compraste en tu vida?
Recientemente he estado escuchando a Grimes, Purity Ring, TEED, chairlift hay muchos discos buenos e interesantes al rededor. El primer disco que compré yo misma fue el de Take that.
– ¿Tratas de escuchar bandas de los países a los que visitas?¿Has escuchado alguna banda española que te haya gustado?
No estoy al tanto de muchos artistas españoles, pero estaría interesada en escucharlos!
– Comenzaste tu educación con canto clásico, y luego pasaste del jazz al punk, hasta llegar a tu propio estilo dance pop electrónico, cuéntanos un poco cómo se fue dando esa evolución en tu vida ¿Cambiabas de estilo a partir de tus gustos musicales, de lo que escuchabas en el momento y de lo que realmente querías hacer tu?
Yo creo que es solo trata de e ir descubriendo diferentes tipos de música, toma su tiempo descubrir lo que mejor se te da y lo que más disfrutas. Muchos de los diferentes géneros fueron cuando yo era una adolescente, creo que a esa edad todo el mundo experimenta escuchando diferentes tipos de música para encontrar lo que les gusta.
– He visto muchos de tus covers hechos en casa con el tenorion, ¿cómo descubriste este instrumento y cómo aprendiste a tocarlo, tuviste algún tipo de ayuda?¿Te gusta experimentar con nuevos y distintos instrumentos?¿Has descubierto algún otro con el que estás trabajando o te gustaría trabajar?
Un productor con el que yo estaba trabajando tenía uno en su estudio y yo misma aprendí a tocarlo. Disfruto encontrando nuevos instrumentos y aparatos, es algo que siempre me ha interesado. En este momento estoy trabajando con un nuevo prototipo de Japón llamado PocoPoco.
– Hablando de los covers, ¿sigues haciéndolos o ya no tendrás tiempo para eso y a la vez subirlos tu misma a las redes sociales como lo hacías antes? ¿Te gustaría seguir haciéndolos o ya has pasado al nivel de solo tocar tu propia música?
Ya no los hago mucho, es muy diferente ahora que ya he lanzado un disco y estoy de gira, ya no se siente tan especial como antes y ahora lo hace tanta gente. Cuando no me habían descubierto tenía sentido, pero ahora se siente raro y me estoy concentrando en mi propia música.
– Tuviste bastante éxito con tu disco pasado, ¿Hay algo que diferencia tu nuevo disco con respecto a éste o siempre quisiste seguir en la misma dirección?
El Nuevo disco probablemente es menos comercial y no tan producido como el primero, definitivamente hay elementos que son los mismos, sigue siendo electrónica y pop pero pienso que es más crudo e interesante.
– Sobre every night I say a prayer, si las oraciones fueran así de pegadizas creo que a mucha gente le gustaría rezar más, ¿Eres muy religiosa? ¿A quien y por quien rezas en esta canción?
Jaja, definitivamente no soy religiosa! Pero trata mas sobre tener una experiencia religiosa, ya sea cuando bailas o en los sentimientos que tienes hacia alguien.
– Cuéntanos sobre el video de Headphones, parece que quieres dar un mensaje sutil y divertido hacia la desinhibición, mostrando los alter-ego de personas comunes cuando escuchan tu canción, ¿Es de esto de lo que trata? ¿Diversión pura y dura sin importar lo que piensen los demás?
Si, la canción trata sobre liberarte y dejarte ser la persona que quieres ser o quizás una versión mas extrema de ti mismo, ese es el poder de la música.
-Comentanos algo sobre tu inminente nuevo trabajo, ¿qué cambios hay en las composiciones y en la manera de manejar los instrumentos en este LP? ¿qué nos puedes decir sobre las colaboraciones? Miembros de Simiam Mobile Disco y Hercules And Love Affair han tenido su granito de arena, 80s 90s, disco, house…estamos expectantes creenos!
Estoy siendo muy cautelosa sobre la manera en que mi Nuevo disco suena sónicamente, pienso que es importante tomarme mi tiempo sobre esto, ya que en este momento mucha gente está haciendo música dance en sus habitaciones de manera muy rápida y barata, así que quiero estar segura de que sea la mejor calidad. También estoy trabajando con Tim Goldsworthy que es un gran productor. Quería que sonara como Kylie Minogue respaldado por LCD Soundsystem!
– ¿Que te gusta pinchar en tu faceta de dj?¿Quién te gustaría que hiciese un remix de una de tus canciones? Pincho mucho old y deep house, y new disco, y ediciones mezcladas con remixes de mis propias canciones. Me encantaría que Todd Terje hiciera un remix de alguna de mis canciones. He empezado a hacer remixes de nuevo recientemente, tendrán que esperar para ver
-¿Qué nos espera en tu visita a nuestro país? ¿por qué no deberíamos dejar de asistir a tu directo? El show será muy divertido y animado, mucho baile y con suerte visuales cool, también es el cumpleaños de uno de los miembros de nuestra banda, así que estamos preparados para una fiesta!

– Ive read that you participated on a talent show in your begginings and you were eliminated. How do you feel looking back from where you are now, with a pretty successful album on your back and another one yet to come, and with a career already done? Do you think that participating on that show helped you in some way and that things would have been different for your career if you had won?
I was very young and it was very brief, I don’t think it really affected anything except made me used to set backs and made me stronger.
– You have declared yourself as a Britney Spears fan. Britney is now appearing as a judge on The X factor, would you like to be a judge someday on this kind of shows and be on the other side of the stage?
Its not really something that interests me I don’t like the idea of judging other people too much, but if it was the right kind of opportunity then I guess you should never say never. I think Britney will be a fun judge.
– Your influences are a variety of very different artists, they go from classic bands like Pink Floyd, through artists like Gary Numan, The Human League and Kylie Minogue, What band or singer has caught your attention lately? Any discoveries? What was the first album that you bought?
Recently I have been listening to Grimes, Purity Ring, TEED, Chairlift there are a lot of good interesting albums around. My first album I bought myself was Take That.
– Do you try to listen to bands from the countries you visit? Have you heard any spanish band that you have liked?
I’m not aware of many Spanish artists but I’d be interested in hearing!
– You started your singing education with classical singing, then you went from jazz to punk, until you reached your own electronic dance pop style. Tell us a bit about that evolution in your life and career. Did you change of style starting from your musical taste? from what you were listening to at the moment and what you really wanted to do?
I think its just a case of growing up and discovering different kinds of music, it takes a while to find out what you’re best at and what you enjoy the most. A lot of the different genres were when I was a teenager I think at that age everyone experiments with listening to different kind of music to find what they like.
– Ive seen a lot of your homemade covers with the tenori-on, how did you discover this instrument and how did you learn how to play it? Do you like to experiment with new and different instruments? Have you discovered any other one which you are working with or would like to work with?
A producer was working with had one in his studio and I taught myself to play it. I enjoy finding new instruments and gadgets its always something that’s interested me. At the moment I am working with a new prototype from Japan called PocoPoco.
– Speaking of covers, Are you still doing them? or you have no time for that and uploading them on social networks as you used to? Would you like to keep doing them or have you moved to a level of just playing your own music?
I don’t really do them too much any more, it’s very different now I have released an album and am touring it doesn’t feel as special and so many people are doing it now. When I was undiscovered it made sense but now it feels weird and I’m concentrating on my own music.
– You had a lot of succes with your past album, is there something that differentiates your new album with the last one or did you want to keep it in the same direction?
The new album is probably less commercial and not as produced as the first, there are definitely some elements that are the same it is still electronic and pop but I think rawer and more interesting.
– About every night I say a prayer, if all prayers were that catchy I think that a lot of people would pray more. Are you very religious? Whom and for whom do you pray in this song?
Haha I am definitely not religious! But it is more about having a religious experience either when you are dancing or in the way you feel emotionally about someone.
– Tell us about the Headphones video, it looks like you want to give a subtle and fun message towards disinhibition, showing the alter-egos of common people when they listen to your song, is this what it is about? Just pure plain fun without caring what other people say?
Yes the song is about music setting you free and letting you be the person you want to be or maybe a more extreme version of yourself, that is the power of music.
– Tell us something about your new upcoming album, what changes in your compositions and in the way you play music in this new LP? How about your collaborators? Simiam Mobile Disco and Hercules And Love Affairs members have been at scene here 80´s,90´s, House, Disco we are waiting very expectatly , believe us!
I am being very careful about the way the new album sounds sonically, I think it is important to take time over this as so many people are making dance music in their bedrooms at the moment very quickly and cheaply so I want to make sure it is the best quality. I am also working with Tim Goldsworthy who is a great producer. I wanted it to sound like Kylie Minogue backed by LCD Soundsystem!
– What music do you like to play as a dj? Which artist would you choose to make a remix out of one of your songs? Have you made any remixes? Which song or artist would you like to remix?
I play a lot of old and deep house and new disco and edits mixed in with remixes of my own songs. I would love Todd Terje to remix one of my songs. I have started remixing again recently you will have to wait and see
– What can we expect at your Spanish visit? Why we can´t lose your show?
The show will be really fun and upbeat lots of dancing and hopefully cool visuals it is also one of our band members birthdays so we are ready to for a party!
